A Better Pain For A Different Gain

Experiencing a crime or being involved in gang culture can affect people in many ways. The feelings of fear, anger, shock and numbness are physical effects no individual should experience. Using textiles to help stop knife crime is an encouraging and influential aspect of this project, it presents an exciting opportunity to create a campaign against gang culture and violence. A research focused approach directed my informed design choices, creating a coherent user focused collection as a method of rehabilitation and the enhancement of health and wellbeing.

I also conducted an interview with the manager at the Braunstone Adventure Playground (BAP) and gathered information about the after-school club to inform and evidence research to support my design direction and research file.

I produced a Knitted Sportswear/ Activewear collection with the intention to influence and encourage young people, both girls & boys (early adolescence- aged between 11-16) to attend and compromise in sports and being active (rather than being on the streets), addressing a method of solution to try and decrease the levels of knife crime amongst youth and gangs.
