Metamorphosis

URE Strong; I AM Strong 

‘Metamorphosis’ a project revolving around insects and the transformations they go through. The emphasis of this project is that while insects and reptiles look ordinary and uninteresting to the naked eye; underneath a microscope or under a macro lens their aesthetical appearance is magnificent and unimaginable. Inspiration from both metamorphosis and discreate aesthetical appearance of insects, has inspired me to evolve this project idea on mental health and how youth that are trapped in gang culture are more likely to be depressed and suicidal. Therefore, people involved in crime, gangs and violence may present themselves happy and resilient on the outside but may also experience feelings of sadness within. 

Like metamorphosis and how caterpillars grow into beautiful butterflies, youth that find a way out escape their metaphorical cocoons to become far happier people. Processes such as metamorphosis and reptiles that camouflage has been my main focus for this project, meanwhile primary imagery of insects and reptiles that evoke happiness and strength inspired design direction and knitted fabric samples.
