Disorientation

Be Who You Are. Embrace Your Differences.

‘Normality’; a word usually referring towards a behaviour that is ‘normal’ or mostly consistent to a particular individual. however, the definition of ‘normality’ can vary from person-to-person. Disorientation is a project revolving around the way certain individuals experience their day-to-day life, whether this being associated with one’s state of mind or an imagination of altered reality. Individuals with psychotic disorders, for example, may experience situations of Delirium, Hallucinations and Schizophrenia, other areas such as Lucid Dreaming, Epilepsy, taking drugs such as LSD and Charles Bonnet Syndrome also link with disorientating experiences and hallucinations.

Furthermore, the effects created by optical art and optical illusions range from subtle, too disturbing and disorienting, inspiration from both psychotic disorders, optical art and illusions has encouraged me to evolve this project on health and wellbeing. Raising awareness in society about embracing and accepting your differences, and supporting people that hallucinate has been demonstrated through the recreation of a sophisticated psychedelic knitted fabric collection that leaves the audience feeling disoriented and dazed. Primary imagery of optical art, illusions and chaotic geometry has inspired design direction and knitted fabric samples.

Disorientation: About

Market Level

The idea for target market has initiated from my concept. We live in a society that teaches us that normal is best and different is bad. Conditions such as mental health and hallucinating are very personal to each individual and may present and impact individuals differently; the awareness of this has allowed me to identity that just as every condition is different so is the psychology of wearing clothing.

A disorientating state is unique to each individual, this directed intricate and time-consuming knits specifically aimed for the woman's Couture fashion market, Spring/Summer 2020-21.
